Kodály Australia Professional Award in Music Education (KAPA)
(Early or Primary Years)
Level 1B (this course is still in pilot phase and is awaiting accreditation through National Education Committee Kodály Australia) This course is for:
educators who have completed a previous foundation package through the Music Education Strategy (counts as level 1A)
educators with some experience in delivering music
preschool and primary educators in generalist class rooms who want to explore Kodály pedagogy
initial teacher education students who want to extend their training in delivering music in the classroom
Assumed knowledge: participants need to have some experience delivering music activities for learners.
Structure 5 days in person
Facilitated by accredited lecturers, participants will be actively engaged and supported through four modules of study including Music Skills, Pedagogy, Music Making, and Music Leadership. There are no formal assessments and homework requirements for this course.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Educators who complete this course will develop an understanding of Kodály-inspired music education and be able to:
Confidently lead songs, games and musical routines
Understand core elements of beat, rhythm, pitch and form
Integrate music meaningfully into generalist classrooms and early year sites
Use repertoire to support transitions, assemblies and whole-class joy
Begin to see themselves as musicians and educators of music
